In addition to the regular exhibits and layouts, the Bellingham Railway Museum also offers many special events for
members and the public. Some of these events are held at the museum, while others may be held throughout Whatcom
County or include travel around the state. Special events currently scheduled may be found on our News page.
Railroad History walks
The railway Museum conducts, in conjunction with the Bellingham Parks Department, a series of fun and informative history walks
along the abandoned railroad grades which have been converted to trails in Bellingham. These walks are designed
to enlighten people to the wealth of railroad history in their own backyards and to share some of the stories and character of the rails.
Railfan trips
The museum is planning to offer guided trips to various current and former railroad locations in 2005. Trips may include visits to other museums,
a railroad tour of Seattle, or a day trip to Stevens pass. Watch for announcements on our homepage.
Traveling Exhibits
The museum has created a number of traveling exhibits which can be taken to fairs, community meetings, public venues and other
places where they are accessiable to the public. In addition, they may be exchanged with local and regional museums in order to
broaden our ability to share the fascinating history which is all around us. These exhibits contain information on a specific topic of
interest to the audience and serve as an easy introduction to railroad history. Exhibits may be as small as a tabletop display or large
enough to encompass artifacts, maps or multimedia displays. The purpose of the traveling exhibits program is to "get the word out"
to the greater public about railroad history and what the Bellingham Railway Museum has to offer.
Railroad related lectures
The Bellingham Railway Museum sponsors lectures on a wide variety of topics relating to railroad history, operations, railfanning, and model railroading.
These events are open to the public and will are advertised throughout the community. Speakers include museum historians and local experts from other community organizations.
Lectures currently being planned include Whatcom County Railroad history, Successful railfan photography, and Beginning your model railroad.
